It seems that in Art there are two ways of drawing a person, First is Drawing their head and face, this is known as a Portrait, and second is Drawing a person body, this is called figure drawing. This application covers human body drawing, and this section that you're looking at right now will discuss body drawing. What Figure Drawing will help you understand is how to draw the human body. We're not going to get all medical about it and draw bones and nerves and such, because you don't see those every day (unless it's your job). What we'll look at is how to draw "the man on the street", the types of people you see every day. This section assumes that you are comfortable with the activity of drawing, and that you have a basic understanding of how to drawing body.

If you don't feel like you're comfortable with drawing yet, may I suggest that you take a look at the DRAWING BASICS section in this application, pay particular attention to the measuring, shading, perspective and contour drawing topics because there will be a lot of that going on in human anatomy drawing that is assumed you're comfortable with. In this figure drawing section we'll go into the general proportions of a typical human body even if necessary you can use figure drawing models and also explore some of the common errors that people make when drawing the human body.

The human body is a work of art in itself and it seems impossible to draw it. However, there are proportions of the body that you should memorize and always keep in the back of your mind and once you do this, the human body isn’t so hard to draw at all. It is just these facts that should pull all everything together for you.

To memorize the ideal measurements and proportions of the drawing human figure should you be earnest endeavor, and, with this end in view, the essentials of the various tables that have been constructed for this purpose are presented here. The ideal human figure drawing is eight heads high, which means eight skulls, the dimensions being based on the length of the skull without its covering of hair.

To drawing human body with realism, symmetry is also of fundamental importance for the design of the human body has a same balance between the right and left sides.

In general, the human body does not hold exactly the same measures on one side and the other there are small differences, often imperceptible when you look at, but noticeable when measuring. In the anatomy drawing, the axis of symmetry is represented by a vertical line from head, through his nose and into the space between the legs.

Surprisingly, the most important thing in visual art of any kind is not accurate proportions and outlines of the image, but the mood or character of the person conveyed in a drawing though his or her facial expression and/or body language.
